‘Shadows of Yesterday’ was my 2006 tribute to Colonial homes and buildings which brought back fond memories to many of the guests at my exhibition last year. The theme of my upcoming September exhibit is the nature and life of our country, thus the work is extremely detailed and aims to evoke feelings of serenity and love of nature. Entitled ‘Trinidad’, the work varies from landscapes and seascapes to market places and vendors all in the medium of watercolour.
In keeping with the nature theme, I recently added a piece on local hunters in the forest of Trinidad to the collection. Simply titled ‘Hunters’, it is my second piece which explores the vast natural beauty of our island and can be seen in the 'Trinidad' gallery.
Soon to be uploaded to the gallery are three small paintings - one of a beautiful seascape and another of a flower vendor which is full of detail. The third piece is of an old lady selling local flowers on the side walk who sits in the shade of a huge purple Bougainvillea. As an artist it was particularly enjoyable to work on this one as it explores both colour and form while capturing the essence of the theme of this collection.
The other piece I liked working on is entitled ‘Belmont Parlor’ which is of a little "hole in the wall" shop where the doors swing open to the shop keeper amid the backdrop of a variety of brightly coloured things for sale on the shelves. Though it has been boarded up for many years, I have vivid memories of purchasing home made sweets at that tiny Shop throughout my childhood and even as a teenager.
I will be posting some more about the remainder of the pieces for ‘Trinidad’ as well as the date of the exhibition in September so keep checking the site for updates.
